London city councillors are considering an $80,000 funding extension to a family doctor recruitment program run by the Middlesex-London Ontario Health Team in partnership with the LEDC. The program has brought six doctors to the area, with 15 more potentially following suit, but some councillors are uneasy about the incentive-based approach. About 25% of London and Middlesex County residents lack a family doctor, and 61 local doctors are expected to retire within five years. Council will vote on the funding on April 1.
