Following government debates regarding banning the veil in sports, the RN is reigniting the discussion of banning the veil in public spaces. RN leaders, including Jordan Bardella and Sébastien Chenu, have expressed their opposition to the veil, viewing it as a symbol of Islamist assertion. They propose extending the 2004 law banning religious symbols in schools to public buildings and accompanying school trips. While banning the veil in the street is a "distant step" now, this proposal aligns with Marine Le Pen's long-standing position, although her stance has evolved over time, from targeting only public services to including public spaces.
