Coroner warns of scrambler bike danger in inquest for boy, nine, killed in crash

Nine-year-old Charlie Joyce died after a collision involving scrambler bikes in Ballymena in June 2022. Coroner Anne-Louise Toal emphasized that no adults supervised the children at the time of the crash. Both boys involved were strangers, and the incident occurred on a grassy area near a playpark, with limited visibility. A pillion passenger was on Charlie's bike, which wasn't designed for such use. The bikes were removed from the scene before emergency services arrived, complicating the investigation. The coroner urged parents to be aware of the legal and safety aspects of scrambler bikes. Police noted that riding scramblers in public areas is illegal.
