Deutsche Bahn estimates a need of €150 billion for infrastructure maintenance and expansion until 2034, including €80 billion for modernization, corridor renovation, digitalization, and other measures. A prioritization plan focuses on renovating the existing network and stations. The funding could come from a planned special infrastructure fund of €500 billion, but the future of this funding is uncertain after the coalition break-up.
