Residents and work crews in the South and Midwest are beginning to clean up and survey the destruction from a series of storms that kicked up wildfires, tornadoes and dust storms
Severe storms, including wildfires, tornadoes, and dust storms, killed at least 39 people across seven states in the South and Midwest on March 17, 2025. Oklahoma saw over 400 homes destroyed by wildfires. Mississippi reported six deaths and over 200 displaced by tornadoes. Alabama reported at least three deaths. Missouri reported at least a dozen deaths due to tornadoes. Dust storms in Kansas and Texas caused multiple fatal car crashes.
