Device enables direct communication among multiple quantum processors

MIT researchers developed a photon-shuttling “interconnect” that can facilitate remote entanglement, a key step toward a practical quantum computer.

MIT researchers developed a photon-shuttling interconnect enabling direct, scalable "all-to-all" communication between superconducting quantum processors, facilitating remote entanglement. The device uses a waveguide to send microwave photons between processors in a user-defined direction, overcoming limitations of current "point-to-point" architectures. This interconnect advances the development of practical, distributed quantum computers.
