'Disappointed' Joey Barton quotes IRA's 'our day will come' slogan as he says he will APPEAL conviction after being found guilty of kicking his wife in the head

The former Man City midfielder, 42, said he was 'disappointed' after being found guilty of assault following a two-day trial at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Joey Barton was found guilty of assaulting his wife by kicking her in the head, despite her claim in court that it didn't happen. Barton, who received a suspended sentence, stated he will appeal the decision and quoted the IRA slogan "Tiocfaidh ár lá" ("our day will come"). The magistrate rejected Barton's and his wife's accounts of the incident.
