Health chiefs issued an urgent warning and recall for Elbow Grease Heavy Duty Hand Cleaner, sold in Poundland and Savers, due to contamination with potentially deadly aerobic mesophilic bacteria. The contaminated hand wash poses a microbiological risk and may cause infection or irritation if used on damaged skin or near the eyes. Some batches were found to contain bacteria like Pseudomonas, Enterobacteriaceae, Lactobacillus, and Streptococcus. A similar recall occurred in the US for Woolite laundry detergent, due to Pseudomonas species contamination. Individuals with weakened immune systems or medical devices are at higher risk of serious infection from these bacteria.
