Dumfries and Galloway outpatient appointment waiting lists hit record high

As many as 15 people in the region could have been waiting for more than two years to be seen.



Outpatient appointment waiting lists in Dumfries and Galloway hospitals have reached a record high, with a 30% increase in the past year and some individuals waiting over two years. At the end of 2024, there were 13,438 waits for outpatient appointments and 5,386 waits for inpatient appointments. The figures were revealed in new figures from Public Health Scotland. The Health Secretary stated the improvements in outpatient, diagnostic and inpatient/day case waiting times performance and expects no-one to wait longer than 12 months for a new outpatient appointment, inpatient treatment or day case treatment with more than 150,000 extra patients seen by March 2026.
