Education Department Slashes $600M for 'Divisive' Teacher Training Grants

The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) has terminated $600 million in grants for teacher training programs, citing their promotion of "divisive ideologies." These programs focused on topics such as racial bias, equity, Critical Race Theory, and diversity. The DOE highlighted examples like "Dismantling Racial Bias" and "Centering Equity in the Classroom," as well as strategies involving race-based recruitment. The department also referenced materials addressing systemic oppression and culturally responsive teaching. Erika Sanzi of Parents Defending Education criticized the trainings as extreme and noted declining student outcomes. Previously, the DOE had slashed $101 million in diversity, equity, and inclusion grants as part of cost-cutting measures.
