Eight Galway projects have been selected to receive a portion of the €14 million Community Recognition Fund. These projects include upgrades to sports facilities, community centers, parks, walking trails, and playgrounds. The largest allocation, €240,000, goes to Fr Burke Park in Galway City for accessibility enhancements. Other notable projects include Suan Community Centre, Maam Cross, Oughterard, Carnmore Hurling Club, and Kinvara Community Centre, each receiving specific funds. An astro-turf pitch in Ballinrobe is also supported. The fund, introduced in 2023, aims to support communities that have welcomed new arrivals. The Minister highlighted the fund's purpose and noted that local authorities identified specific community needs. Applications for the next phase have been extended, with successful projects to be announced soon.
