The EPA is investigating faulty electric school buses in Maine supplied by Lion Electric, a Canadian company, under a federal grant program. The buses, delivered in late 2023, have consistently experienced issues. EPA agents visited schools in Winthrop in late January, interviewing officials about the problems. Lion Electric, facing financial trouble, is under credit protection and unable to provide necessary repairs. The buses remain under warranty, but no technicians are available in Maine. Lion Electric owes Maine schools $57,000 for bus rentals.
