Frightening flaw found in iPhone app that's downloaded by default 'could be a national security threat'

Researchers from George Mason University in Virginia uncovered a flaw in an iPhone app that they warned poses a risk to national security by letting hackers spy on certain devices.



Researchers found a flaw in Apple's default "Find My" app, potentially turning the network into a global espionage system. The flaw could allow tracking of individuals and sensitive equipment, even without internet or GPS. Apple was informed in July 2024 and released a patch in iOS 18.2, but adoption rates are slow, leaving devices vulnerable.
