Operation Rialtas was established last May in advance of the local and European elections
Operation Rialtas, a Garda operation established in May to protect politicians due to growing safety concerns, has resulted in 18 arrests, 13 charges, and other cautions/summonses. The operation addresses incidents ranging from election poster damage to death threats and is a joint initiative of the Garda National Crime and Security Intelligence Service and the Garda Roads Policing Community Engagement section. Some arrests relate to protests at former Taoiseach Simon Harris's home.
