Researchers found plastic, glass, metal, and paper waste at the deepest point in the Mediterranean Sea, the Calypso Deep (over 5000 meters deep) off the coast of Greece. This confirms that waste is accumulating not only on coastlines and in shallow waters, but also in the most remote parts of the Mediterranean. Evidence suggests that entire garbage bags are being dumped directly from ships.
