Historic England acquires collection featuring some of UK’s oldest photos

Historic England has acquired the Janette Rosing collection, featuring approximately 8,000 photographs, including some of the UK’s oldest. The collection, spanning the mid-1830s to the 1860s, captures England’s transformation post-industrial revolution, showcasing landscapes, architecture, and maritime scenes. It includes works by photographers like James Mudd and Linnaeus Tripe. The acquisition, part of the government’s acquisition in lieu scheme, highlights the collection’s national significance, with its rarity and historical value.
