HIV soars after a deadly war in Ethiopia's Tigray. Trump's aid cuts aren't helping

The HIV prevalence rate in Ethiopia's Tigray region has more than doubled, rising from 1.4% to 3% after the war that began in 2020 due to systematic looting and destruction and the breakdown of health services, including access to antiretrovirals and condoms. This is compounded by factors such as sexual violence, survival sex work, and cuts in US funding for HIV programs, including layoffs of health workers and stop-work orders for aid organizations.
