Hudson's Bay is keeping 3 of its Ontario locations open amid liquidation

A small flame may still flicker for the future of the Hudson's Bay Company, but much of the country will remain in the dark without the physical presence of Canada's oldest retailer and company.As part of its restructuring under creditor protection from the federal Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA), the retailer returns to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice today, seeking approval to keep just six stores open while beginning the liquidation of its remaining locations and e-commerce business on Monday, March 24, 2025, when fire sale prices of merchandise begin.This retains just 7.5 per cent of Hudson’s Bay's existing network of 80 stores across the country. Additionally, the three Saks Fifth Avenue and 13 Saks OFF 5th outlet stores will close.These select stores saved from the chopping block will be limited to Ontario and Quebec, where Hudson’s Bay has 32 and 13 stores, respectively. Hudson's Bay, under creditor protection, is seeking court approval to keep six stores open in Ontario and Quebec while liquidating its remaining locations and e-commerce business starting March 24, 2025. This retains 7.5% of its stores and includes closing Saks Fifth Avenue and Saks OFF 5th locations. Liquidation sales are planned until the end of June 2025, with a budget of $14.3 million.
