'Huge opportunity': Compelling Calgarian named as new chancellor at MRU
Mount Royal University (MRU) has appointed Arlene Strom, a securities lawyer and former Suncor Energy executive, as its new chancellor. Strom, named one of the Calgary Herald’s Compelling Calgarians in 2023, expressed her enthusiasm for the role, citing her commitment to post-secondary education and working with young people. The formal installation will occur during convocation ceremonies in June. Strom, who also serves as an ex officio member of MRU’s board of governors, aligns with the university’s mission and brings expertise in community engagement, particularly in supporting the Indigenous community. Her four-year term is in accordance with provincial legislation, and she emphasized her dedication to MRU’s focus on student success.
