‘I get PTSD when I watch it’: The inside story of Dig!, the most outrageous music documentary of all time

From onstage brawls to epic drug binges, the 2004 film captured the competing highs and self-sabotaging lows of indie bands The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols. As a new version hits cinemas, its director and participants tell Kevin E G Perry about the fights, fall-outs and why rock revolutions are a thing of the past

"Dig!. XX" is a new extended cut of the 2004 documentary "Dig!", revisiting the chaotic journeys of The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols in the 90s alternative music scene. The film captures the bands' contrasting approaches to the industry, with Anton Newcombe's self-destructive creativity clashing with Courtney Taylor-Taylor's strategic success. The documentary explores themes of music industry excess and the compromises made in pursuing artistic dreams.
