ICE arrests Tufts grad student; lawyer says her location is unknown

Tufts graduate student Rumeysa Ozturk, a Turkish national and Fulbright Scholar, was arrested by ICE in Somerville and sent to Louisiana. Tufts President Sunil Kumar stated the university had no prior knowledge and did not share information with federal authorities. Ozturk's lawyer maintains she had a valid F-1 visa status. A judge ordered ICE not to move Ozturk out of Massachusetts without notice. The Department of Education previously warned universities, including Tufts, about potential funding cuts related to antisemitism and adherence to federal antidiscrimination laws.
