Ireland will increase financial contributions to Ukraine, Taoiseach says

Micheal Martin gave the commitment to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a meeting of Ukraine’s allies in Kyiv on Monday.

Ireland will increase its financial contributions to Ukraine, Taoiseach Micheál Martin announced during a meeting of Ukraine's allies in Kyiv. Martin emphasized the importance of Ukraine's defense of its sovereignty for small nations and the rules-based international order. Ireland will also work with other countries to ensure accountability for war crimes, particularly regarding Ukrainian children abducted during the conflict. While Ireland maintains its policy of military neutrality and does not provide lethal aid, it has welcomed over 100,000 Ukrainians under the EU temporary protection directive. Martin also reiterated Ireland's support for accelerating Ukraine's EU membership, maintaining sanctions on Russia, and using frozen Russian assets for Ukraine's reconstruction. The announcement came amid the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and tensions between the US and Europe following recent remarks by Donald Trump.
