‘It’s not because I want people to think I’m great’: Michael Sheen on paying off £1m of his neighbours’ debts

Michael Sheen used £100,000 of his own money to buy and cancel £1 million in debt for 900 people in South Wales as part of a Channel 4 documentary. This project, stemming from his work with the End High Cost Credit Alliance since 2018, aims to highlight predatory lending practices and aid those struggling with debt in a region facing economic hardship. Sheen, who declared himself a not-for-profit actor in 2021, is committed to using his earnings to support community causes, particularly in Port Talbot, where he staged The Passion, an event that deepened his understanding of local needs and underfunded organizations.
