Kat Dennings chose her stage name at age nine because she felt her real last name, Litwack, wouldn't work for posters. Inspired by Christina Ricci's character "Kat" in *Casper*, she shortened her first name and used a modified version of her mother's friend's wife's name, Denni, to become Kat Dennings.
