Lib Dems determined to drive change on domestic abuse law, says MP at conference

Josh Babarinde has spoken in the past about how his mother and he were subject to abuse from her ex-partner when he was a child.

Liberal Democrat MP Josh Babarinde announced at the party's spring conference that he will propose an amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill to create specific domestic abuse offenses. Babarinde, who experienced domestic abuse as a child, stated the current law fails to adequately protect survivors. He aims to address the lack of a specific domestic abuse offense, which prevents the exclusion of abusers from early release schemes. Babarinde said he has support from MPs across the house, including some Labour MPs.
