‘Maintenance, failure of some units blamed for current load shedding’

The Electricity Minister, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, and Eskom have attributed the current load shedding to a combination of maintenance activities and the failure of certain power units. Eskom implemented Stage 6 load shedding on 23 February 2025, aiming to replenish emergency reserves and prepare for the week ahead. The Minister and Eskom CEO, Dan Marokane, expressed confidence that efforts to restore units to service would ease power cuts by the end of the week.
