Mehdi Nemmouche was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Paris special assize court for being the jailer of Western and Syrian hostages for the Islamic State (EI) in 2013 and 2014. The sentence includes a 22-year minimum security period. Nemmouche is already serving a life sentence for the 2014 attack on the Jewish Museum in Brussels. The court also recognized all 25 Western journalists and humanitarian workers kidnapped in Syria, as well as all unidentified Syrian nationals, as victims.
