Meta and Uber among firms ‘linked’ to alleged corporate migrant worker abuse

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre identified 665 cases of alleged abuse against migrant workers linked to 489 companies, including Meta, Uber, Deliveroo, John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, and others. At least 218 migrant workers reportedly died due to corporate abuse or neglect, with 71 cases involving breaches of occupational health and safety standards. The gig economy, mega-events like the 2024 Paris Olympics, and large-scale projects in Saudi Arabia were highlighted as high-risk areas. The report emphasized that these cases likely represent only a fraction of the total abuse. Companies like John Lewis and Marks & Spencer have responded, denying direct involvement or emphasizing their commitment to protecting workers' rights.
