Yantra Amaro, a monk expelled from the Thai Sangha in 1994 for a public sex scandal, died at 73 at his California monastery. Despite his expulsion, he continued to wear robes and his death was announced on the monastery's Facebook page, stating he had "reached Nirvana." His family is arranging for his body to be returned to Thailand for a religious ceremony.
