Mountains of rubbish blight one side of Birmingham street amid bin strikes

On one side of Chelworth Road in Birmingham, the pavement is immaculately kept but directly opposite, on the verge run by the bankrupt city council, it is swimming in filth.

Due to bin strikes and a city boundary quirk, one side of Chelworth Road in Birmingham is covered in piles of leaking refuse while the other side, managed by Worcestershire County Council, remains spotless. Residents report rats and impassable walkways due to the build-up of rubbish. The bin strike involves nearly 400 council workers in a dispute over jobs and pay, and two people have been arrested in connection with the ongoing industrial action.
