Netflix reveal how Gabby Petito's road trip of lifetime turned into double death horror

Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie got engaged in 2020 and seemed to be starting a grand adventure together, but things weren’t as they seemed with Gabby’s body found after a missing person’s hunt

Netflix's documentary "American Murder: Gabby Petito" details the tragic story of Gabby Petito, 22, and her fiancé Brian Laundrie, 23, whose 2021 road trip across the U.S. began as a seemingly idyllic adventure but ended in tragedy. The couple, who had gotten engaged in 2020, presented a happy, adventurous image online as they embarked on their journey, chronicling their experiences through social media. However, their trip took a dark turn when Gabby's body was found in September 2021 after she went missing. Chilling police footage revealed Gabby appeared distressed during an encounter with officers, citing personal issues with Brian. Despite being separated by police, the couple continued their trip the next day. Brian later returned home with Gabby's van but without her, leading to a nationwide search. Brian's remains were found in October 2021 with a note claiming he killed Gabby to end her suffering, though autopsy results contradicted his account. The documentary also explores Brian's efforts to fabricate an alibi, including altering communication records and financial transactions. In 2022, Gabby's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Brian's parents, which was settled for $3 million.
