The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) decried worsening security and economic hardship in Nigeria during their 2025 First Plenary Meeting. Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji cited rising violence, poverty affecting 129 million Nigerians, high unemployment (53%), and food inflation nearing 40%. He urged the government to create jobs and deploy advanced technology to combat insecurity, while also calling on Nigerians to demand better governance. Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama urged Nigerians to resist societal ills and despair amidst ongoing challenges.
