No charges against Ottawa police officer who shot man in Orléans confrontation

After ignoring commands to drop the axe, the man charged at the officer. In turn, the officer fired eight shots at the man, hitting him in the leg.

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit cleared an Ottawa police officer of criminal charges after the officer shot an axe-wielding man in Orléans in November. The man, who had been attacking people and property, charged at the officer after ignoring commands to drop the axe. The officer fired eight shots, hitting the man in the leg, before another officer used a Taser to subdue him. The SIU director concluded the officer acted in self-defense.
