Ontario Premier Doug Ford to reveal tariff plans for U.S. electrical imports

Ontario set to impose 25% tariff on electrical exports to U.S.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced a 25% tariff on U.S. electrical imports to end "chaos" and counter U.S. tariffs. The tariff, effective Monday, adds approximately $10 per megawatt-hour and is projected to generate $300,000-$400,000 daily. Ontario-produced power exported to the U.S. will also face a 25% surcharge. Ford asserts Ontario will not relent until U.S. tariffs are removed, and the Energy Minister stated the province will use every tool to defend Ontario and Canada.
