Ottawa funding Jordan’s Principle for First Nations children through 2026: minister

Patty Hajdu said government has poured $8.8 billion into the principle since it was established in 2016

Canada will continue funding Jordan's Principle, which ensures First Nations children can access government-funded health, social, and educational services, through 2026. Indigenous Services Minister Patty Hajdu announced the extension, stating the government has invested $8.8 billion since 2016 with over 8.9 million services approved. Some First Nations chiefs have criticized recent service cutbacks and Canada's narrowed scope of funding approvals related to the principle.
