Patients have sense of smell restored thanks to surgery to treat long Covid

All patients taking part in the research had an impaired sense of smell for longer than two years.

Nasal surgery at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust restored the sense of smell in long Covid patients who had lost it for over two years and failed other treatments. The surgery, which corrects blocked nasal passages, increases airflow to the olfactory region, enabling odorants to reach the area that controls smell. A study involving 25 patients showed that those who underwent surgery reported an improved sense of smell compared to those who continued with smell training.
