Breakthrough nose surgery is restoring the loss of smell in some Covid patients



A 27-year-old woman, Penelope Newman, regained her sense of smell, lost due to long Covid, after undergoing nasal surgery as part of a trial at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The trial, involving 25 long Covid patients with impaired smell for over two years, found that those who had surgery reported improved sense of smell, unlike the smell training group. The research suggests surgery can help restore smell dysfunction caused by long Covid.
