PIP disability benefit payments explained and what changes could be announced today

Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall is set to make an announcement on the future of PIP in the Commons after midday, as part of plans benefits bill by £6billion

Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall announced government plans to overhaul Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, aiming to reduce benefits spending. The changes, impacting 3.7 million claimants, follow the replacement of PIP with Adult Disability Payment in Scotland. PIP is a disability benefit based on how a condition affects daily life, determined through assessments. Awards are for fixed periods, from nine months to ten years. The assessment process involves points for daily living and mobility needs. PIP is paid every four weeks in two components.
