She’s accused of turning up at the McCann home, leaving voicemails and sending messages
Julia Wandel, a 23-year-old Polish woman who claimed to be Madeleine McCann, has been charged with stalking the McCann family. She allegedly visited their home, left voicemails, and sent messages between January 2024 and February 2025. Wandel, also known as Julia Wandelt, is accused of contacting Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry, and siblings Sean and Amelie through letters, calls, voicemails, and WhatsApp and Instagram messages. The charges state her actions substantially affected the family's daily life. She faces up to 12 months in custody or a fine for each of the four charges. A second woman, a 60-year-old from Wales, was arrested but released on bail. Wandel claimed she might be Madeleine after noticing gaps in her childhood memories and identifying similarities in sketches and an eye abnormality. She apologized in 2024 after a 2023 DNA test disproved her claim.
