A 23-year-old woman, Julia Wandel, claiming to be Madeleine McCann, has been remanded into custody in Leicester Magistrates’ Court after being charged with stalking the parents and siblings of Madeleine McCann. The charges relate to alleged stalking between January 3, 2024, and February 15, 2025, including attending the family home, sending letters, calls, voicemails, and WhatsApp messages to Kate and Gerry McCann, and Instagram messages to their children Sean and Amelie. Wandel, originally from Poland, is due to appear at Leicester Crown Court on April 7. A second woman, aged 60 and from Wales, arrested alongside Wandel on suspicion of stalking, has been released on bail. Madeleine McCann, who vanished in 2007 while on holiday in Portugal, has never been found. Wandel previously gained attention in 2023 with false claims of being Madeleine.
