Premier Smith not sold on killing of consumer carbon tax, wants industrial levy plan

Despite calling for its demise for years, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says she isn't phased by the new prime minister's move to kill the consumer carbon levy.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith states that the true test of Prime Minister Mark Carney's new government will be its industrial carbon tax policy, following Carney's elimination of the consumer carbon levy. Smith expresses concern about potential increases to industrial carbon taxes and their impact on Alberta's oil and gas sector, advocating for an immediate election to clarify the new industrial pricing scheme. Smith also highlights Alberta's ongoing legal challenges against the federal carbon tax, citing unfairness and potential unconstitutionality. Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe has also called for the federal government to scrap it. Opposition NDP Leader Carla Beck welcomed the end of the carbon levy.
