The Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN) reports that primary healthcare implementation in Nigeria remains suboptimal. APHPN advocates for medically qualified Medical Officers of Health in all local government areas and identifies challenges including lack of political will, a weak healthcare system, depleted human resources, poor infrastructure, and uncoordinated healthcare approaches. The association is willing to collaborate with the Ministry of Health to address these issues and also calls for the establishment of Public Health departments in secondary and tertiary facilities.
