Referrals to NHS sexual assault centres rise by almost 18% in two years

The rise follows campaigns to ensure more people are aware of the medical, practical and emotional support available,

Referrals to NHS sexual assault referral centers in England increased by almost 18% in two years, reaching 26,374 referrals last year. This rise is attributed to NHS campaigns increasing awareness of available support. Most referrals are for women and girls, with 61% of service users under 25, but services are available to everyone. The majority of referrals come from the police, and the NHS is urging GPs to inform patients that they can contact SARCs 24/7 anonymously without police involvement.
