Health services watchdog report criticises Sunbeam House’s failure to keep residents with intellectual disabilities safe
A Hiqa report found that residents with intellectual disabilities in Sunbeam House care homes in Wicklow are at risk of "institutional abuse" due to unsafe practices and failures to protect residents from harm. Concerns include lack of action to prevent recurring abuse, restrictions lacking rationale, inadequate support for at-risk residents, reliance on temporary staff, and governance issues. Hiqa has threatened to close six homes since 2022.
