Retired GP found guilty of obstructing railway during power station protest

Retired GP Dr. Diana Warner, 65, was found guilty of obstructing a railway during a climate protest at Drax power station in North Yorkshire. Warner, wearing high-visibility clothing and waving a flag, walked on the tracks and stopped a 400-meter-long empty freight train on December 14, 2021. She told the jury she protested to highlight Drax's role in the climate emergency and deforestation. The jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict under the Malicious Damage Act 1861. Warner has prior convictions for obstructing the highway and failing to comply with public assembly conditions. She faced no outstanding proceedings and had agreed not to participate in unlawful protests as part of a disciplinary process with the General Medical Council.
