Samantha Cookes jailed for three years for ‘deliberate fraud’ over protracted period

Judge Ronan Munro said the 36-year-old carried out a ‘carefully orchestrated plan’ to take money from the State



Samantha Cookes was sentenced to three years in prison for social welfare fraud and theft committed over four years by falsely claiming to have Huntington's disease. The sentence, delivered at Tralee Circuit Court, also considered Cookes' exploitation of sympathy for Huntington's sufferers and her prior convictions for similar fraudulent activities.
