Kevin Sutherland's family believe that he committed suicide after “callous” response to his desperate plea for anonymity.
Kevin Sutherland, a Scottish sex abuse victim, took his own life after the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry, chaired by Lady Smith, denied his plea for anonymity. He sent a harrowing email begging for his statement to be anonymized after initially waiving anonymity and then fearing his 60-page testimonial would be searchable online. His family believes the "callous" response to his plea contributed to his death. A separate inquiry, chaired by Jason Beer, will investigate Lady Smith's decision-making process.
