Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton says funding cuts forcing pause on intakes for some services

The organization said people who are current clients, who are on the waitlist for services, or who have an intake booked, will continue to be able to access services as scheduled.

The Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE) is temporarily pausing intakes for some clinical services, including adult and child counseling, due to the Alberta government cutting $1.8 million in grant funding. SACE says this will impact sex assault survivors and has led to staff layoffs. The Alberta government denies the cuts and claims increased funding for sexual assault centers across the province in the upcoming budget.
