A fire at the Wurukum rice mill market in Makurdi, Benue State, destroyed two shops on Sunday night, razing rice processing machines, rice, and other goods worth millions of naira. Shop owners, including Mrs. Hanmaikyur Mercy who lost N10 million in goods, are appealing for government assistance. The chairman of the market said an assessment will be carried out to quantify the losses and seek support from the governor. The cause of the fire is unknown, but some traders dismissed electricity as a cause.
