Sinn Fein label report into Dáil disorder as ‘deeply flawed’

The clerk of the Dáil concluded that the Ceann Comhairle acted according to the rules and her powers

Sinn Féin has labeled a report by the clerk of the Dáil into Tuesday's Dáil disorder as "deeply flawed." The report, which analyzed whether Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy adhered to Dáil rules, found that calls to trigger a division were not audible on the chamber's legal record and that the disorder allowed Ms. Murphy to use her discretion to move to the next item. The report stated that a division was taken in accordance with standing orders regarding a motion to amend Dáil standing orders. However, Sinn Féin disputes Ms. Murphy's decision to declare the government amendment passed after tellers refused to sign the tellers' sheet.
